Season’s greetings from the Leith Links Activity Park team!
2024 has been a year of patience and anticipation as the Thriving Greenspaces team continues developing designs for the Leith Links Activity Hub in collaboration with atkinsrealis and Betongpark.
This process has included further engagement with the local community (we’ll post about this soon) and navigating aspects of the ‘Confirmation Act’ – a legal protection which covers Leith Links. We’ve supported the team whenever we’ve had the opportunity and are impressed by the progress they’ve made. Watch this space for exciting design updates early in the new year!
This year also brought news on an important development for Leith Links: permanent public toilets will be coming to the park in May 2025! This outcome stems from the consultation led by Leith Links Community Council back in 2021, subsequent advocacy by the Leith Links Working Group and lots of work behind-the-scenes by the Thriving Greenspaces team. Elsewhere in Leith, plans for ‘The Dock’ community skate area in Coalie Park continue to gain momentum with the release of new visuals and news about progress towards their funding target. Follow The Edinburgh Wheels Project and The Water of Leith Trust for the latest updates.
Closer to the Links, a campaign to transform Leith St Andrews church into a community well-being and activity centre was launched in March, spearheaded by local organizations Access Parkour and Think Circus – learn more and support the campaign Leith St Andrews.
Further afield, two projects have been busy fundraising:
• Cat’s Friday Skate Club which began at Leith DIY’s Shanty Town ramp during the Meanwhile Project, is currently fundraising to run indoor skate sessions at the new Pitt Market in Granton. Look out for further updates about long-term plans at West Shore Rd soon.
• Over in Holyrood Park, the team behind the Skelf Bike Park has been raising funds to maintain their much-loved pump track.
